Dolpa [May. 6th, 2006|05:05 pm]

Yesterday was crazy busy. I went to Dolpa in the morning. Got there around 8~8:30. I was glad to see that Dolpa staff was handing out ticket numbers as we arrived in the general admission line, which both prevented cutting and allowed us to leave the line to get food or use the restroom. Once I got inside, I ran around trying to get to the few dealers selling clothes that would be suitable for Jeremie. I got to Belle Rose and Flapper before they were sold out and was able to pick up a few nice tops for him; then I walked around the rest of the hall quickly to see what else there might be, and got a pair of flowered pants from another dealer, and a Japanese-style top from Sagazakiya, and that was it for him... Just about everything for boys is either too casual or too punk for him, and the few dealers who make things that work tend to sell out very quickly, so I focused only on that for the first round. After that I walked around a second time to get loli dresses for Ageha. That was pretty easy -- lots of dealers sell loli dresses in SD size. I got her 3 pastel-colored loli dress sets and a black leather corset and skirt that resembles Moitie style. ^_^

At 12:30 I left Dolpa to go to Narita airport to meet my relatives. My mother, sister, and two of my aunts from California are visiting Japan. They're spending the first half of the trip in Kagoshima visiting our family there, and next week they'll return to Tokyo for the rest of their trip. Yesterday I met them at Narita airport, and as there's no flight from Narita to Kagoshima, I accompanied them on the shuttle bus to Haneda airport and had a quick dinner there with them. It was nice to see them for a little while. ^_^

My sister was impressed by how much stuff I'd bought at Dolpa and rummaged through the bag, only to say, "Didn't you get anything for Jeremie? This is all lacy girl stuff! You're not going to put these pastel dresses on him?" I pulled out one of the boy tops I'd gotten as proof that I did buy stuff for him, and it was... a periwinkle lace and ruffly thing. (LOL) I flipped the package over to show her the model picture which was plainly of a boy, an attractive F-28, and realized that NO, this doesn't help, that pretty F-28 with the long hair still looks like a girl to non-ABJD people. x_x;

I was a little sorry not to spend more time at Dolpa, though. There were so many beautiful dolls and displays. I would have liked to be able to take pictures, spent some time studying the really good faceups, and talking to people. Well, at least I was able to be there for a little while! I completely missed the December Dolpa because I was visiting my family in the US for Christmas, and I'll probably miss the next Tokyo Dolpa for the same reason. (I brought quite a bit of money to this one because of that, but I didn't spend it all...)

Shin's Shinydolls were there. Kasumi again looked up at me with a plaintive face that seemed to say, "I want to go home with you and live with Jeremie." I don't know how well that would work... I get the feeling that Jeremie's type of girl is the big-busted super sexy type. ^^; He's kinda androgynous so girls that are really unmistakeably over-the-top female seem best for him. (LOL) I think if I had a Kasumi, it would be a one-way thing. :/

I hope I'll have time to do a doll photoshoot soon. The last one I did was in February. o_O;

I redid Ageha's face today. I received the Lady Rosalia black bunny outfit I'd preordered, and in that and with the mohair wig, she looked too much like Hime's girl used to. ^^; (Hime's girl was an inspiration on the last faceup, which was fine as long as Ageha was wearing the black Megu wig, but like this... no...) I've been meaning to repaint her with a wintry feeling anyway.

I got yesterday's pictures online, yay.

I think Yukinojo looks like Heath's dad. Like, if Yukinojo and Madoka had a secret love-child, they'd make a Heath.

I SO need to get some good graphics software for my new Mac because the screen on my old computer is not cutting it. I would have had the photos up last night, but I had to edit them on my old computer with the dim screen, and when I saw how they looked on my new computer I decided to trash them all. The redos were also done on the old computer, I just used less curves because obviously it's not necessary except on the oldest and dimmest old monitor.

Does anybody have Photoshop Elements? What do you think about it? I'm accustomed to using an older version of full Photoshop for Windows (can't put it on the Mac) and not accustomed to paying for it... ^^; I think it's time to give Adobe some money after all these years, but it's AWFULLY expensive to spring for a full new copy of Photoshop, and it's possible that Elements might be good enough for 90% of my needs. I've used older versions of ImageReady and found them pretty good, but I still have to switch to Photoshop for serious work. Haven't tried Elements yet, though.

Just in case anybody was wondering, SD13 boys can wear Dollfie Dream thong underwear with the elastic sides. (LOL, I don't think anybody WAS wondering, but just in case...) It fits quite nicely under pants, if you want it to. I don't. XD

Jeremie has a Monica Lewinsky momentCollapse )

Cassiel, Erin, and I went to Harajuku today for pictures. I'm not done editing mine and I think I'll just go to bed and finish it tomorrow.

Ageha's back! (sorta) For the past couple of weeks she's been in pieces as I sanded her seams. Today I more-or-less finished the seams and did some arm modifications to improve her poseability. I'm so happy with the way the mods came out!

Cassiel and I went out today to take photos for Rafariel's arrival story. Jeremie was called upon to play a small role. Suddenly not only is Rafariel's arrival explained, but now it's obvious why Jeremie's occupation has been a secret all this time. o_O;

Since this was a Rafariel shoot and meant to be during the daytime, I didn't bring stuff like my tripod, reflector, or flashlights. I mostly just watched Cassiel and "helped" with Jeremie's role. (which means it didn't turn out quite like planned ^^;) After the story was done, we took a few more photos.

I just got the Volks newsletter, jam-packed with info about the Dolpa LE dolls and clothes/accessories. The Baby shoes are NOT among the re-releases; I'm surprised and now very glad I decided to buy them at auction.

There's a TON of new jewelry and it's all boy-size/style! 6 cool silver rings for SD13 boys. I'll have to hit the after event for these. Jeremie needs more rings. (No, 2 is not enough, LOL) There are also necklaces, chokers, and sets of silver buttosn. I'm not interested in any of the new clothes, though.

Yukinojou has two spreads because there's an optionmal sweatsuit for him. Ir shows him sitting with his legs crossed. Very posable!

And there's a very cool school head C modeling some of the outfits. This one has a completely different faceup than the first one we saw photos of a while back. Suddenly I'm much more interested in the head... ^^

Yukinojou has WIDE shoulders. It's about time! I like the way Volks sculpted his body. He looks healthy, not starved, and not too muscular. I wonder if all the dolls will have that body blushing... Wouldn't that be interesting! But maybe they only blushed the display doll.

Jeremie's facing the computer screen and he looks pissed off. Looks like he wants a new flexible wide-shouldered body. (LOL) But that's not the way life works! I'd love to trade in my body for a new taller model with a smaller hip piece and standard size feet, but I'm stuck with what I've got and so is Jeremie, dammit. Anyway, Yuki's body has a gigantic neck and I doubt there's any way to make a normal SD size head fit well and look good on it.

I got some pearly beads and necklace clasps today. I really want Jeremie to have one of those multi-strand "pearl" necklaces that are all the rage in young women's fashion this year. If I don't bungle it, maybe I'll try to make a matching belt with the leftover beads. Boys in girls' jewelry rocks my world.

I got my SD13 leather suit from Minami (Y!J) yesterday, just before going out to Harajuku to meet Cassiel and Kalmia. Somehow all the boys looked unusually disreputable. (LOL) Maybe it's because I left Ageha at home, so the boys didn't bother to pretend to be nice. ^^;

I haven't resized and edited my pictures yet. I have a feeling Cassiel has some hilarious captions in mind.. XD So I'll just post one for now.

That leather suit is awesome. I'm glad I took a chance on the auction. The seller had no feedback yet at that time so it was rather risky looking, and no one else in Japan bid on it, but there was some competition from shopping services. -___-; I wonder about that... I took a gamble on the auction because I thought it was just a case of a Korean seller deciding to strike out on her own rather than pay service fees to freesia. But were all those overseas bidders also gambling, or did they just not know what that little kanji icon next to the username meant?

Cassiel and I went to Yokohama today to take night pictures. It was a lot of fun! ^_^

After the last doll meetup in Harajuku, I loved the twilight pictures so much that I really wanted to try to take some at night when it was really dark, someplace with vivid lights. So Cassiel and I have been kicking the idea around, along with possibilities for making it work on a low budget. I don't have a huge professional lighting kit or room to store one, but I thought maybe it would be possible to improvise with flashlights and something to diffuse and soften the light a little. In the end I brought along a few wads of bubble wrap to stuff over the flashlight heads. Some of these photos were taken with one light, some with two lights (we took turns playing lighting tech ^^), and some with one light and a small portable reflector.

The rest of the pictures are at Den of Angels:
